Suspension of Collection of Disaster Relief Items
The Government and People of Dominica and the Dominica High Commission would like to extend their gratitude to all Dominicans and friends of Dominica who have so diligently given their time, aid and commitment toward the emergency relief effort for Dominica.
A special commendation is extended to all the Dominican Associations in the United Kingdom for their commitment and support.
We confirm that to date fourteen (14) 40 feet containers of relief items from the United Kingdom has been shipped and delivered to Dominica.
Whilst Dominica’s infrastructure is still undergoing steady recovery, it is important that the island’s economy also recover in terms of businesses reopening and resuming their operations in supplying and serving customers. It is therefore vital that currency begins to circulate in the country to stimulate the economy.
We wish to advise that the shipping companies and many of the collection centres are winding down their relief operations. To this end, the collection and shipment of relief items by the High Commission will be suspended with immediate effect. However, arrangements are being made for the shipment of items which are already at collection centres.
We wish to encourage the continued donation of relief funds and ask that you continue to consult the High Commission’s website, which will be launched shortly. Updated information regarding the ongoing and longer term relief effort to Dominica will also be posted on our website.
The High Commission remains thankful to all those who participated and organised the donation and collection of relief items.
With kindest regards
Janet Charles
Acting High Commissioner
