Tropical Storm Erika

You will have heard of the devastation which the passage of Tropical Storm Erika left in Dominica.  Sadly lives were lost, and many people have been made homeless.  Countless houses, businesses and livelihoods have been destroyed.

Posting Aid to Dominica

Please note that persons wishing to make a contribution to the official relief effort should look at the Revised List of Critical Needs Post ERIKA (see extract below).  Relief items donated through the Dominica High Commission  will be sent to the addressee above and will be distributed by the authorities in Dominica.  Therefore, with immediate effect the High Commission is no longer accepting items of clothing or dry goods.

“The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica continues to express sincere gratitude to all those who have partnered with it during recovery efforts in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Erika. The Government recognises that it could not have done it on its own.

A current assessment of the situation and recovery strategy, has revealed that there is a critical need of the following items:

1. Building Materials:
– Steel
– Lumber
– Plywood
– Roofing Material
– Windows
– Doors
– Toilets
– Sheet Rock

2. Fixture and Fittings
3. Construction Tools and Equipment

Additionally, the local private sector is able to supply food, clothing, and other items, so the Government encourages persons wishing to assist families to send cash to allow them to purchase the items locally in Dominica”

It is not possible to include items or packages in this shipment to private individuals.

The Government has waived the import charges on all relief aid entering Dominica. This applies to items addressed to the official government consignee, private individuals, or to specific groups such as Village Councils.
